Macular Assessment Clinic

Optos Daytona

(Visual Answers optometrists use hospital-grade technology when examining your eyes for macular degeneration (AMD) and other sight threatening conditions)

Our investment in the latest imaging technology at our optometry practice in Leicestershire means we now have a specialist Macular assessment clinic in which we check for changes in Dry and Wet AMD using:

Retinal Photography – a digital scan of your retina including the macula area with an NHS Primary Care Trust approved camera system.

Amsler Chart – It is a diagnostic tool that aids in the detection of visual disturbances caused by changes in the retina, particularly the macula (in macular, degeneration, AMD, epi-retinal membranes) as well as the optic nerve and the visual pathway to the brain.

Ophthalmoscopy – shining a bright line into your eyes to see the structures of the retina and the rest of your eyes.

FDT Perimetry – offers a high sensitivity and specificity in the detection of early glaucomatous damage, and in other disorders ranging from ocular, retinal, neurological and neuro-ophthalmological causes.

OCT Scan – Optical coherence tomography, which allows a three dimensional scan of the retinal area including your macula that allows us to see each individual layer at the back of your eyes allowing for the earliest detection of AMD changes (wet and dry).

Optomap Retinal Scan – captures over 80% of your retina in a single scan allowing us to see 4 times more of your retina than ordinary high street eye tests. This can normally be done without the use of eye drops and allows the early detection of age related changes in the peripheral retina that are linked to macular degeneration (AMD) and Alzheimer’s too.

The charge of a full advanced diagnostic assessment is £140 & takes over an hour to complete. You can have 6 monthly follow- up scans by joining our VisionClub care plan for just £15.95 per month that provides a host of other immediate benefits and savings too. Our investment in technology normally means you do not require eye drops to dilate the pupils of your eyes or cause you blurred vision – in event we have to use eye drops, you will always advised not to drive after the appointment. Therefore its suggested you come accompanied with another person. All the tests carried out are quick, painless and non-invasive and your results can be reviewed with the consulting optometrist on the same day.
