Our investment in the latest imaging technology at our optometry practice in Leicestershire means we now have a specialist Macular assessment clinic in which we check for changes in Dry and Wet AMD using:
Retinal Photography – a digital scan of your retina including the macula area with an NHS Primary Care Trust approved camera system.
Amsler Chart – It is a diagnostic tool that aids in the detection of visual disturbances caused by changes in the retina, particularly the macula (in macular, degeneration, AMD, epi-retinal membranes) as well as the optic nerve and the visual pathway to the brain.
Ophthalmoscopy – shining a bright line into your eyes to see the structures of the retina and the rest of your eyes.
FDT Perimetry – offers a high sensitivity and specificity in the detection of early glaucomatous damage, and in other disorders ranging from ocular, retinal, neurological and neuro-ophthalmological causes.
OCT Scan – Optical coherence tomography, which allows a three dimensional scan of the retinal area including your macula that allows us to see each individual layer at the back of your eyes allowing for the earliest detection of AMD changes (wet and dry).
The charge of a full assessment is £97 & takes about an hour to complete. In this consultation drops may be used that dilate the pupils of your eyes – therefore you are always advised not to drive after this appointment and come accompanied with another person.
